Does Medicine Available For HIV AIDS?

Medicines For HIV/AIDS: HIV infection starts when the virus is transmitted through contact with infected body fluids like blood, semen, or breast milk. Currently, there is no identified cure for HIV. However, medicine is available for HIV AIDS. Medicines stop HIV from replicating so you can manage your condition and recover your quality of life. Medications do not stop the spread of HIV to others.

Classes Of Medicine For HIV

There are many different types of medicine used to treat HIV. Your doctor will determine the best medicines for you. This choice is based on your viral load and strain as well as the level and intensity of your disease.

Many people with HIV need to take more than one medication. Attacking HIV from several guidelines cuts down on viral load more quickly. It also helps prevent resistance to the medication being used. This means that your medicines may work better to cure your HIV.

Multiclass Combination Medicines

Since 2006, fixed-dose combinations of HIV medication have become available. These medications combine two or more medication from the same or different groups into one tablet. The only tablet is easier to take. Currently, there are four combination medicines are approved to treat HIV AIDS:

  • Atripla, which contains efavirenz (NNRTI), emtricitabine (NRTI), and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate
  • Complera, which contains emtricitabine (NRTI), rilpivirine (NNRTI), and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (NRTI)
  • Triumeq, which contains dolutegravir (integrase inhibitor), abacavir (NRTI), and lamivudine
  • Stribild, which contains elvitegravir (integrase inhibitor), cobicistat, emtricitabine (NRTI), and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate

A study found that people who take a single tablet every day are less likely than people who take 3 or more daily tablet to get sick enough to end up in the hospital. Moreover, fixed-dose combinations reduce on dosing errors. They also lower the probability that the HIV virus will become resistant to the treatment.

On the other hand, adding more medicines to one tablet can also lead to more side effects. That’s because each medicine comes with its own set of risks. If you increase a side effect, it can be hard to tell which of the medicines in the tablet caused it.

Choosing an HIV treatment is the very important decision. You should make your decision with your doctor.
